Comic Madness Review:  DESTROYER #1
by Troy

I always felt that Robert Kirkman’s work on Marvel books has been terrible.  I mean come on — Ultimate Marvel Team-up? Jubilee? Freaking crappy ass Marvel Zombies?  Ugh I found more interesting things written on the bathroom wall at the Madness, and no Wade I’m not “looking for a good time”.  But back to what I was saying, I hated Kirkman’s Marvel work, until I read Destroyer.  What a Great book, Kirkman at his best.  Providing the pencils is Cory Walker (Invincible) whose work on this book tops even his work in Invincible and Astounding Wolf-Man (which is also a great book).  This book is not for the faint of heart though. The level of ultraviolence is unimaginable.  No spoilers but at one point he reaches into a guy’s mouth and pulls out his heart (sOOoooOOOooo AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!)! But if you’re ok with that, def. check out Destroyer, you will no be disappointed!

This book gets a SOLID 8 out of 10!

Power Girl #1

Power Girl #1 by Adam Hughes

So when I picked out this cover Anthony said “That’s a horrible cover” and “Her boobs look like an ass.” So I’m not saying that her boobs actually look like an ass, I just want to say that they’re supposed to be BIG. She is Power Girl and this is an Adam Hughes cover. BIG.

Reason 1: Adam Hughes is king at drawing women and facial expressions. Just look at those dudes behind PG. Priceless.

Reason 2: Technique. Hughes can really work a mouse on his covers, this one especially shows his great digital blending skills.

Rant of the Week: Dear Marvel, stop copping out on stuff like this.

Human Torch #1Human Torch edited

The cover illustration on this one is pretty nice. Fire and androids - pretty cool stuff, no? But then whoever did the cover art (or Marvel. [probably Marvel]) had to go and make it match those other Timely Comics and plain out screwed it up. To the left is the original cover, and to the right is my attempt to make it look better. There is no hope. That flaming font is horrible.

Cover of the Week 4-29-09

Posted by May-BO on April 29th, 2009

Here’s our first cover of the week! Once a week (or you know, whenever I feel like it I guess) I’ll pick out a comic or two not for it’s interiors or story, but for the thing that makes you want to pick it up first, the cover.

Fringe #4

Fringe #4

Reason #1: I was looking for today’s pick and nothing was quite standing out, so I decided to check the covers to see if any followed the fancy-shmancy art rule, the divine proportion. Though this cover doesn’t follow it, it DOES have the proportion. Technically.

Reason #2: I like the way these covers are all following the blue-color-scheme, negative-looking, almost-scientific theme. I love themes.

Nitpick: I hate the title font. Well, not so much the font but the fact that it’s in 3-D. It really… doesn’t go well, in my opinion.

Until next week! (or whenever)
